WestShore School prohibits the following:
- Physical violence, intimidation or threats
- The possession, use or distribution of illegal or restricted drugs, including alcohol
- The carrying or possession of weapons or simulated weapons
- Verbal abuse, profanity, racism, and sexism
- Written abuse or comments prohibited under the B.C. Human Rights Code communicated in publications including: (cyber bullying, texting, graffiti, student publications, blogs, websites or any other form of communication)
- Disruption of the classroom or learning environment
- Vandalism of school property
- Smoking – on property (It must be done away from all buildings and on public lands only)
- Using electronic devices (Ipods, cell phones, Ipads, cameras) to photograph students or staff and post their photos in any form without their consent.
* As a result of the Clean Air by-law (September 1996) smoking is not permitted anywhere on school property. Students who do not comply with this by-law are subject to a fine of $570.00.
Breaches of these rules including the defiance of school authority will be viewed most seriously and may result in suspension, possibly dismissal. In some cases, it may be appropriate for the school to involve the participation of the Police.
Parents and students should know the Board authorizes administrative officers, teachers, and other appropriate personnel at Westshore to discipline students, in the classroom, the school at large and in extra-curricular situations.
